Depending on the severity of the incident and the resulting damage or injury to property or a person, offenders can face a jail term of up to three years, or a fine of up to Rs. 10,000, or both. If the incident results in the death of a person, the jail term can extend up to seven years, or the fine can increase to Rs. 10,000, or both. In such cases, the driver must also pay an amount of compensation to the victim's family. These punishments are meant to deter people from engaging in such dangerous and irresponsible behavior.
